Woodbridge Man Charged With Raping Fredericksburg Girl: Police

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Woodbridge man is in police custody and charged with raping a 12-year-old girl in Fredericksburg, according to a news release from the Fredericksburg Police Department. The suspect, Roger Brownell, is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. On Jan. 14, the victim's mother reported to police that she believed her daughter was having sexual relations with a man. The case was assigned to Detective Alexandra Tittle of the Fredericksburg Police Department, who identified Brownell as a suspect. Tittle's investigation revealed that Brownell met the girl on social media, authorities said. Police said Brownell snuck into the girl's home at night on two different occasions to have sex with her. Investigators obtained warrants for his arrest. On March 9, members of the Prince William County Police Department arrested Brownell and served him with the warrants. Brownell is charged with one count of rape and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
