When you lead an early childhood center, you have a passion for guiding young children, inspiring your staff, and building partnerships with parents. As the face of Herndon Children’s Center, you project the positivity, caring, and stability we’re known for. You motivate your teachers. Engage your families. And most importantly, create a nurturing environment for our children to learn, play, and grow. Herndon Children’s Center, part of the local community for more than 25 years, is looking for our next Center Director. We are a non-profit center proudly accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Families choose us for our developmentally appropriate, child-centered approach that values individuality, social interaction, and experiential learning. In turn, we lovingly care for their children—from our littlest three-month-old infants to our early elementary school-age-support children. Our ideal Center Director is someone who builds and maintains relationships while effectively running our center. You have strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of early childhood curricula, and understanding of NAEYC and Virginia licensing standards. You enjoy leading a team of early childhood educators and are confident with the operational and financial responsibilities of managing a non-profit organization. And when you are surrounded by curious and engaged children, it brings a smile to your face. You must have: A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education (or a bachelor’s degree in another field plus 36 education course credits) Prior child care center leadership and management experience Ability to pass a Virginia Criminal History Records check and a Child Protective Services check prior to starting work Ability to maintain CPR and first aid certification, medication administration training certification, and a food handler's license Be at least 21 years of age You’re responsible for making sure the center is: A warm, educational, and safe environment for all Operationally effective and fiscally sound Meeting all NAEYC, Virginia Department of Social Services licensing, and Virginia Department of Health standards What you’ll do: Work closely with the center’s Board of Directors and Parent-Teacher Committee Promote the center’s programs with current and prospective families Retain a high-quality and tenured staff; and recruit and hire when needed Plan staff work schedules, review curriculum, and evaluate performance Process tuition and payroll Maintain student records Maintain the center’s safety program and other licenses What we offer you: Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Life insurance 9 federal holidays 2 days of paid professional development 24 days of paid time off Herndon Children’s Center is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
