ARLINGTON, VA — Amazon donated $15,000 to Wakefield High School in Arlington on Friday to support racial equality initiatives at the school as part of the company's celebration of Black History Month. The donation includes copies of the book "Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism, and You" by Jason Reynolds, a book that focuses on anti-racism and cultural awareness. The donation from Amazon will allow the high school in south Arlington to invite guest speakers to address similar topics addressed in Reynolds' book. Wakefield High School Principal Christian Willmore and Arron Gregory, Arlington Public Schools' chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, accepted the $15,000 check at an event on Friday. In 2020, Amazon donated $10 million to organizations working to bring about social justice and improve the lives of Black and African Americans. Wakefield High School is located only a few miles from where Amazon is building its Amazon HQ2, a planned corporate headquarters in the Pentagon City and Crystal City neighborhoods of Arlington County.
