ARLINGTON, VA — Emiya Diaz is one of the 358 Chick-fil-A employees from across Virginia and the Washington, D.C. region to receive some of the $917,500 in scholarship money distributed to team members recently by the restaurant chain.
Diaz is also one of 12 students chosen to receive a $25,000 scholarship as part of the Chick-fil-A Remarkable Futures Scholarships program, according to a company release.
" As a Team Member, Emiya embodies selflessness, positivity and has a heart for service," the release says. "Emiya is a true entrepreneur, starting a cupcake business and writing a poetry book on top of juggling her schoolwork and working at Chick-fil-A. This $25,000 scholarship will help Emiya support her mother and younger siblings while alleviating the financial burden of her out-of-state tuition."
A high school senior, Diaz works at the Chick-fil-A at Dulles Town Crossing. She plans to use her scholarship money to help her pursue a career in journalism when she begins attending Howard University in the fall.
Chick-fil-A awarded more than $19 million in scholarships this year to 7,492 employees at its restaurants in the U.S. and Canada.
"What it means to me as an operator is that I get the opportunity that it's not just me fostering the support and the management for the future," said Tiffany Hassler, a Chick-fil-A operating in Arlington. "It makes me feel like I have a company behind me that will back me and will see the amazing people we have one staff and help encourage them as well."
