Description
DUNEDIN, FL — On Thursday, Vice Mayor Jeff Gow will join advocates from Food & Water Watch and the Tampa Bay Climate Alliance for a rally against energy preemption legislation.
The rally will take place in Dunedin, a city whose 100 percent renewable energy resolution would be nullified should preemption House Bill 919 and Senate Bill 1128 pass through the Legislature this session.
Advocates will also call out the state Legislature for the full suite of energy preemption bills being considered including Senate Bill 856 and its companion bill, HB 839; SB 1008 and HB 761; and SB 1236 and HB 617.
Speakers will urge Speaker of the House Chris Sprowls, R-Palm Harbor, "not be a fool; protect home rule" on April Fool's Day.
As speaker and Dunedin's state representative who has introduced climate change legislation of his own this session, Sprowls will help shape the Legislature's climate policies.
The socially distant rally will be held April 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Pioneer Park, 51 Main St. Participants will gather at the bandstand.
Following the rally, participants will make their way to Dunedin City Hall to join for the city commission meeting.
