Anyone into car audio?

I had my speaker/amp connected straight to the battery for a while. I don't think that was the brightest thing to do, but I need music. Anyway I finally disconnected it. Had a thought to connect a toggle switch of some sort but only got as far as the purchase. Haven't made it past that. I have no idea what I'm trying to do. I don't care if your a female or a dude.. I just need help hooking this up. Maybe 3-4 wires tops. That's what I'm guessing. I could be completely wrong. That's why I need help. I'd go to a professional but I'm spare changin it right now so that's a no go. It's just some crappy 10" speakers with a little 500w amp. I'm not really from here so I don't know anyone. I'm not here for any kind of dating or socializing. I just need some help so I thought to use the power of the internet. Let me know what's up.
