Description

Press release from the City of Irving: March 5, 2021 Atmos Energy crews and contractors will be in Irving and surrounding areas from March 8-12 performing safety surveys of its natural gas distribution system using mobile leak detection units that measure and map methane plumes in the area. Mobile leak detection units are white SUVs with flashing lights, labeled with an Atmos Energy logo or "Utility Contractor." Residents may see this unit driving slowly in the streets and alleys at night between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. during the survey period. If a natural gas leak is discovered, Atmos crews will investigate and grade the leak. If they rate it a Grade 1 (hazardous leak), immediate action will be taken to eliminate the hazard. Grades 2 and 3 leaks are monitored and scheduled for repair based on state and federal guidelines. City officials and first responders have been notified of this activity. Safety First Atmos offers information on how to detect a natural gas leak at AtmosEnergy.com/GasSafety. Think you smell gas? Act fast! Leave the area immediately, and from a safe distance call 911 and the Atmos Energy emergency number at (866) 322-8667. This press release was produced by the City of Irving.
