Description

From the City of Harlingen: 11/06/2019 Angleton, Texas– Harlingen Honorary Police Officer, Abigail Rose Arias has lost her battle with cancer. The courageous seven-year old passed away on Tuesday surrounded by her family. On July 5, 2019, while visiting the Harlingen area with her parents Ruben and Ilene and her older brother Ethan, she was sworn in as an honorary police officer during a special ceremony at the Harlingen Police Department. For the past three years, she had been undergoing cancer treatments in Houston. She was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, a type of cancer that starts in the kidneys. According to the American Cancer Society, it is the most common type of kidney cancer found in children. After being sworn in, Abigail said she wanted to be a police doctor that way if she was on call and someone needed medical attention, she would be able to make them feel better. Abigail touched many lives around the state including many of our Harlingen Police Officers who had the privilege of talking to her and showing her around the station and the City. Abigail had beat this illness once but this time was not to be. Rest in peace Abigail and thank you for making the Harlingen Police Department and the City better!
