Description

FORT WASHINGTON, MD — Officials said a Fort Washington blaze displaced two residents and injured two firefighters on Monday. The crew members sustained burns and went to an unnamed trauma center for treatment, an incident report noted. Both are in stable condition, the department added. The press release indicated that the fire started around 8:06 a.m. in the 2300 block of Thornknoll Drive. First responders reported finding heavy fire on the backside of the two-story, single-family home. Crews explained that they contained the fire to the original house, but wind gusts of up to 40 mph fueled the flames and challenged their response. Nobody was home when the fire broke out, Battalion Chief Donald Fletcher Jr. informed. The Prince George's County Office of Emergency Management will help the displaced adults with housing, Fletcher advised. Investigators do not yet know what sparked the fire or how much damage it caused.
