AUSTIN, TX — A man was shot and killed on Sunday evening in a parking lot in Southeast Austin, authorities said.
Police said Christopher Ray Martinez, 40, was found with multiple gunshot wounds around 5:18 p.m. Sunday in the 2200 block of East Riverside Drive, at a parking lot between an Autozone and a pawn shop.
When Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on scene, medics attempted to render aid, but Martinez eventually died on scene.
Authorities said Monday investigators interviewed several eyewitnesses at the scene and learned the 20-year-old male suspect fled the area following the shooting.
The motive for this shooting appears to be anger and jealousy over a woman in whom both men had a romantic interest, police said.
The Travis County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of the man's death.
Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect, is asked to call the department's homicide tip line: 512-477-3588. Austin police are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that will lead to an arrest.
Officials said the incident in southeast Austin was the 15th homicide for 2021.
