Press release from the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce: March 2, 2021 The Texas Music Office recently named Arlington a music-friendly community. Arlington has produced a host of musical talent, like the acapella group Pentatonix and famed gospel singer Kirk Franklin. They, alongside country musician Marren Morris, won Grammy Awards in 2017 and made Arlington proud. With the Arlington Independent School District (AISD) and the University of Texas at Arlington's award-winning music and performing arts programs, it should not be a surprise that Arlington is leading the way in music. For example, the UTA Department of Music is an accredited member of the National Association of Music and home to Irons Recital Hall, a renowned recording studio. The AISD also recently completed a new state-of-the-art Center for Visual and Performing Arts. The recognition follows Arlington being named a film-friendly community by the Texas Film Commission. The Film-Friendly Texas Program provides guidance to leaders on how to market their cities to filmmakers and support production. Award-winning movies like Spy Kids 2 were shot here and the recognition is proof of Arlington's commitment to fostering economic development and helping filmmakers realize their artistic visions.
