CONNECTICUT — Coronavirus-associated deaths are down 33 percent across the state the past 14 days, but the percentage of new cases and those hospitalized by the virus has grown over the same period.
The daily coronavirus positivity rate in the state has dropped over one-and-a-half points in the latest data released by the state Department of Public Health, down to 3.74 percent from Tuesday's 2-month high.
The positivity rate is a function of the daily number of positive COVID-19 cases versus the number of tests. There were 832 new confirmed cases logged on Tuesday, out of 22,237 tests taken.
There were just five new hospital admissions for COVID-19 recorded, bringing the total number of beds to 513 statewide. That's up 19 percent over the past 14 days.
Connecticut ranks 4th in the nation, behind New York, Michigan and New Jersey, in cases per 100,000 population, according to the New York Times coronavirus tracker.
Another 104 pharmacies throughout the state will begin offering coronavirus vaccines over the next several days, according to Gov. Ned Lamont.
Notification of the expansion comes one day before vaccine eligibility grows to include all residents between the ages of 16 and 44.
An additional 832 COVID-19 cases were logged by the DPH, bringing the total number to 310,888.
The coronavirus death toll in the state is now 7,886, following one more death recorded in the data released Wednesday.
