BERKELEY, CA — Special Weapons and Tactics officers assisted a Peninsula agency in serving a high-risk search warrant Tuesday morning, Berkeley police said. A Berkeley SWAT team at around 7 a.m. assisted Colma officers in serving the warrant at a residence on Channing Avenue near Bonar Street, police said. The Colma Police Department, which does not have a SWAT team, had requested assistance from Berkeley in serving the warrant, police said. Colma officers made an arrest Monday that was the basis for the warrant according to police. Berkeley's Special Response Team (SRT) serves as the agency's SWAT team and is trained in high-risk situations, police said. SRT officers surrounded the residence and trained negotiators used a loudspeaker to contact all inside the home after being unable to reach them by phone, police said. SRT Officers vacated the home and conducted a safety sweep before turning the location over to Colma detectives authorized to search the residence, police said. One suspect was arrested according to police. "BPD considers it standard procedure to have SRT serve this high-risk warrant to keep the officers involved, subjects and the public safe," police said in a statement. "The safety and security of the residents of Berkeley are always our priority. In this operation we were able to safely assist Colma PD, using trained police personnel from the Special Response Team." Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Colma police directly at (650) 997-8321.
