INDIO, CA — One person was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday on eastbound Interstate 10, about 16 miles east of Indio, police said. The crash was reported about 4:15 a.m. near the Cactus City Rest Area, according to the California Highway Patrol. One person was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, and another person who was trapped in the wreckage was freed by firefighters and taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said. Details of what led up to the crash were under investigation. About 25 feet of guardrail was spread across lanes of traffic, the CHP said. The name of the victim was not disclosed.
