Description

NOVATO, CA — One of the Bay Area's most storied Fourth of July celebrations will be held virtually for a second straight year. Novato's annual Fourth of July Parade organizers made the announcement on the event's website. Restrictions amid the ongoing pandemic were cited for the decision to "take the parade online," the Novato Parade Committee said. The event typically attracts around 10,000 visitors. Historians trace the annual celebration of American independence to the early 20th Century, and possibly as far back as the 1800s. "It's a community (event)," Novato historian and former guild president Mike Read told Patch in a 2013 interview. "That's what it was back then and what it is now." Organizers have issued a call-out for videos and photos to be used to celebrate the holiday virtually. The deadline for submissions is June 1. To submit photos or videos for this event visit here.
