We are looking for three individuals to facilitate authentic conversation with the public. Do you like to get into peoples worlds? Are you good at listening without judgement? Do you have the ability to have a conversation without projecting your own opinions on what other people SHOULD be doing? I have created a community project called ‘ Seen in the Park’ in March of 2017 in San Diego after moving to the city and knowing no one. I felt conversations with people were basic, and I wasn’t having the deeper connection with others that I wanted. One day I wrote 50 questions and put them in a jar, went to the park with a chair and a sign saying “ Free Authentic Conversations”. It turned out I would do this every Sunday for the next two years- regardless of what city, state, or country I was in. Fast forward to today, I am looking to experiment to see what it would be like to have other people do this work while helping to mentor and train them. To start off, I am looking for three individuals for the duration of four weeks. Once a week, you will be doing a two hour Seen in the park session with a sign that states “ FREE AUTHENTIC CONVERSATION”. You choose the park. You choose when you. You must be okay speaking with anyone and everyone who shows up. They choose a question card, and they answer it! Your job is to LISTEN and to ask follow up open ended questions. You are free to journal your thoughts and experiences between people coming and going, however there is to be no phones, books, or games to pass the time. This is to be present and available for patrons walking by. I will provide you with questions cards and you can also create your own questions! You will also be provided a t-shirt, white board, and white board markers should you want it. I will train you for two hours and provide weekly30- 45 min check in call. This call is to be used to discuss whatever is coming up for you during this process, tuning your skills, or asking for advice. Taking photos or videos of people you speak to is not required but appreciated should you have consent. I will provide you $100 per week upon the completion of the two hour seen in the park session and the 45 minute check in call. Respond to this to receive information on how to apply!
