JOLIET, IL — Joliet police on Tuesday arrested and charged two people after marijuana and a gun were found during a traffic stop. Deshawn Bew, 26, of Romeoville was arrested on several weapons charges including unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member, Joliet police said in a news release. Dayasa Walker, 23, of Kankakee, was also arrested on charges of obstructing a peace officer, driving with a revoked license and other traffic citations. Police said the arrests stemmed from a Tuesday evening traffic stop near Henderson Francis Streets. When officers pulled over the suspects' car around 8:53 p.m., Bew got out and tried to run away on foot, police said. A metal object, later identified as a gun, fell to the ground near Bew's feet while he was running. Officers caught up with Bew and arrested him. Jail records show he is being held in Will County jail on six charges related to the incident. A bail amount for him had not been set as of publishing. Bew is set to make his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon. While Bew was running, Walker tried to drive away in the car, police said. She was later taken into police custody, and the vehicle she had been driving was towed, police said. She was released on an individual bond.
