Woman, 54, Shot To Death In Joliet: Coroner

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police on Wednesday were investigating the possible shooting death of a 54-year-old woman. Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of S. Illinois Street in Joliet's St. Pats neighborhood at 6:44 a.m. after someone reported a woman had been shot in the home, Joliet Police Department said in a press release. When they arrived, police found a woman dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The Will County coroner pronounced the woman, Sonja Underwood, dead around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday. The coroner said an autopsy will be conducted on Thursday to determine Underwood's cause and manner of death. Authorities said an investigation into the death is ongoing.
