MANHATTAN BEACH, CA —The City of Manhattan Beach has begun analyzing what's needed to improve the safety conditions of local roadways, and they need help from the community. The Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP) project creates a framework to systematically identify and analyze safety problems and recommend what needs to be accomplished
The LRSP work will entail:
Identifying potential safety issues with the city circulation system and pedestrian networkAnalyzing accident records to determine the most critical locations based on accident and injury typePrioritizing roadway safety improvements, including pedestrian/bicycle and vehicular safety improvementsSuggesting improvement strategies"What our residents recommend is important, because they may have differing opinions than our consultant, and we want to consider all alternatives," said LRSP project manager Helen Shi, a senior civil engineer. "We are hoping to get a lot of community feedback, so we can present them to the consultant who will consolidate them into his own findings."
The project is receiving state funding along with additional funds from the city. "It will be the consultant's responsibility to consider the cost to benefit ratio and then come up with a list of priority locations and strategy," Shi said. This could also mean that the work will be structured in tiers starting with the most pressing concerns.
The city is asking residents for their feedback. Commenting will be open until the end of April.
