Exactly the point I was getting at with my objectivity posts! You can find data to support whatever conclusion you want, or make whatever conclusion you want from the data. But you can't take your political outlook into that interpretation while claiming intellectual honesty. Let's break it down: There's not going to be much change in caseload over 3 weeks no matter what you do. Notice the decrease after 3 months is 2%, not 0.5%. But you're also missing context. The bulk of the spread is happening between close contacts, not by shoppers passing each other in the supermarket. The places where masks are mandated are not necessarily driving the epidemic. The study also does not mention how mask mandates relate to mask wearing. We both know it's not 1:1, not by a long shot. In many cases people wear them where there's no mandate and people refuse to wear them where there is a mandate. The study even says, "compliance with and enforcement of policies were not measured" But...I'd rather my chance of catching Covid at the supermarket be zero rather than 1%. And masks are one tool of many, not a silver bullet. I think most people realize that. The elegance of them is that they are cheap and easy to implement. It was never claimed to be a "light switch" on Covid. Because something isn't perfect, doesn't mean it's not worth doing. This "black and white" thinking is at the very core of my grievances on how people treat matters of science when they cross into the political realm. People who call those wearing masks "Sheeple" and "Maskholes" are not objective, and aren't worth my time beyond debunking their misinformation. An honest discussion about the limitations of masks would be good, but the ad hominin attacks show you aren't capable of such. The fact is that helmet reduce the forces of acceleration on your head, it's common friggin' sense. I don't even need my Physics degree to know that. Also that masks limit projection of respiratory droplets (if we get another cold day where you can "see your breath" - you can test this for yourself and see with your own eyes - no statistical study needed). Pretty weird how my imploring people to look beyond their partisan preferences wound up here, eh?
