NATICK, MA — The unofficial results for Natick's 2021 spring election are in, revealing the town's newest Select Board member and the winners of a three-way School Committee race. Former Select Board member Paul Joseph was winning in a race against former Finance Committee member Guimel DeCarvalho for the seat being vacated by Select Board Chair Jonathan Freedman. On the School Committee side, incumbent Matthew Brand was in third in a three-way race for two seats. Incumbent Shai Fuxman was the top vote getter with newcomer Catherine Brunell in second. Brunell and Brand were about 300 votes apart as of Tuesday night. There was also a ballot question before voters seeking to change how Town Meeting receives the budget. That measure was ahead by a wide margin with a majority "yes" vote as of Tuesday evening. About 3,255 voters cast a ballot in Tuesday's election, which is about 13.34 percent turnout. A "yes" vote would make the following changes: Require information about assets and liabilities be included as part of the budget message to Town Meeting.Add a new part of Section 5 of the Town Charter stating, "The representative Town Meeting may, by by-law, require an updated budget message and certain information to be provided in connection with annual operating and/or capital expenditures budgets for a current fiscal year at Spring Annual Town, Fall Annual Town Meeting and for any special town meeting [that] deals with fiscal or budgetary matters."Renumber Section 5 to add "Section 5-8, Capital Improvement Program."
