Mansfield Schools Increase Police Presence Due To Phone Threats

MANSFIELD, MA — Mansfield Public Schools Superintendent Teresa Murphy announced Friday that the district will increase police presence due to a series of threatening phone calls. Murphy said the calls, which were made to one of the schools and the superintendent's office, stemmed from social media posts about an out-of-town protest that a school employee attended. "After receiving the calls, which were politically charged and had a threatening tone, this afternoon, district officials immediately contacted the Mansfield Police Department and an investigation has been launched," said Murphy in a statement. Police do not believe there is an active threat against Mansfield schools, but will increase their presence at the district in the near future out of an abundance of caution. "As a district we take any and all situations of this nature extremely seriously and we will continue to work closely with our School Resource Officers and the police department in this matter," said Murphy. "We will provide any further updates if necessary."
