Description
From City of West Palm Beach: March 30, 2021 West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James today announces the City of West Palm Beach has established and will operate a state-approved mass vaccination site at the Mary V. McDonald Wilson Center at Gaines Park, located at 1501 N. Australian Avenue in West Palm Beach. This site will open on April 1, 2021. As a part of Mayor James' ProtectWPB initiative, the city intends to administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to 1,000 people every week (Thursday – Saturday) through July 2021, in accordance with the Governor's Executive Orders. The vaccine is being offered for FREE. The West Palm Beach Fire Department will administer the vaccine by appointment only and to individuals who have preregistered (no walkups) with the City of West Palm Beach. To make an appointment with the City of West Palm Beach, you must visit the ProtectWPB website at www.ProtectWPB.com or call (561) 200-3687 (TTY: 800-955-8771). ProtectWPB is Mayor James' signature initiative to ensure every West Palm Beach resident who wants and needs a vaccine has access to a vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective at keeping people from getting COVID-19. Leading up to the establishment of the ProtectWPB mass vaccination site, the City has intentionally reached out to eligible adults in low-income households and communities hardest hit by the pandemic, as well as individuals who are elderly or homebound, Black or African American, Hispanic/Latinx, or Haitian. Community organizations, service providers, and the city's outreach team have alerted individuals in the community about the availability of the vaccines and offered to schedule appointments. Data shows that minority communities are not receiving the COVID-19 vaccines at the same rates as the general population. "The COVID-19 vaccine is a critical tool in the fight against COVID-19," said West Palm Beach Mayor Keith A. James. "This vaccine can help saves lives. Working together, our community can and will overcome COVID-19. I encourage everyone to get the COVID-19 vaccine at the City's ProtectWPB vaccination site." The City of West Palm Beach received the supply of vaccines thanks to the Florida Department of Emergency Management, the Florida Department of Health, and Palm Beach County.
