Residents Displaced After Malden Parapet Collapse

MALDEN, MA — Dozens of residents have been displaced following a parapet collapse in Malden over the weekend. Part of the parapet on the roof of the Mount Vernon Apartments on Salem Street broke off around 12:30 p.m., damaging a nearby traffic light and spreading debris onto the sidewalk, according to reports. There were no injuries, but the fire department evacuated at least 70 people from the building, WCVB reported. The building inspector is investigating the collapse.
