Description
Your Arlington Last Updated: 30 March 2021 Written by various sources Public survey available; complete by April 14 Town planning and the Transportation Advisory Committee are the hosts for a virtual public listening session to discuss safety improvements along the Chestnut Street corridor, and specifically pedestrian safety around the crosswalk at Chestnut Terrace. This session is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 30. Register here >> The crosswalk at Chestnut Terrace was the site of a fatal collision when a driver struck a pedestrian on Dec. 31, 2019. The town would like to hear community ideas about this corridor and feedback on potential short- and long-term improvement options for Chestnut Street. These community recommendations will inform final proposals to be submitted to the Select Board for review and approval. The goals of the Chestnut Street project are to improve the safety for all users in this area, reduce speed of vehicles through the corridor and increase the comfort of vulnerable road users, specifically people walking and bicycling. After collecting community feedback, the advisory committee expects to determine final recommendations at their May or June meeting that will be sent to the Select Board with short-term improvements to be insituted as soon as possible. A survey is also available which shows different options being considered to help improve safety. Fill out the survey by Wednesday, April 14. Paper copies of the survey can also be found in the vestibule of the Robbins Library lobby.
