STAMFORD, CT — A Stamford man was arrested Saturday night shortly after weaving through traffic on Washington Boulevard and crashing into a concrete barrier, according to police. Police Capt. Richard Conklin said Michael Ford, 36, of Stamford, drove his vehicle through a traffic signal on Washington Boulevard and into oncoming traffic around 8 p.m. "[Ford] kind of weaves his way through traffic," Conklin said. "It's unbelievable he doesn't get hit." After making his was across the boulevard, Ford drove into a concrete barrier, Conklin said. Three police detectives who were in the area noticed the collision and drove over to investigate, Conklin said. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.) According to Conklin, Ford was disoriented when officers approached the vehicle. The officers pulled him from the vehicle, shut off the engine and asked for his license, which Ford said was in the vehicle's center console. Officers located Ford's license in the center console along with a 9mm pistol, which Ford was not allowed to have, Conklin said. A tablet of ecstasy was also located in the center console, Conklin said. Officers later discovered the handgun was reported stolen from Petersburg, Va., Conklin said. Ford was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a hallucinogenic. "These detectives were in the right place at the right time, being observant," Conklin said, "and they were able to take this suspect into custody and get an illegal gun off the street, which is always something that makes us happy."
