TOMS RIVER, NJ — An Atlantic County man has been ordered to remain in the Ocean County Jail on an attempted murder charge in connection with a stabbing at a Toms River motel. Ocean County Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels ordered Carles Bryant of Millville held in jail until trial in the March 3 stabbing of a woman during a fight in the lobby at the Howard Johnson on Hooper Avenue, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said Tuesday. The fight happened about 10:30 p.m.; Toms River police found the woman unresponsive with multiple stab wounds to the head, face, and body and she was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. The woman has since been released from the hospital, authorities said. Bryant was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and contempt, Billhimer said. He was a fugitive initially but was arrested in Atlantic City on March 19 by the U.S. Marshals Service. Bryant has been held in the Ocean County Jail since his arrest.
