San Mateo Police Seize Narcotics, Arrest Two After Routine Stop

SAN MATEO, CA — San Mateo police seized over four grams of fentanyl and seven grams of methamphetamine and arrested two people on Saturday after a routine traffic stop led to a search of a hotel room. According to a news release, police stopped a Mercedes in San Mateo just before 6 p.m. for a vehicle violation. Officers determined the driver was on probation, leading them to search his person and the car, where they found a scale, clear baggies and a BB gun. Police then conducted a probation search of a hotel room where the driver, Deavon Scottgarden, and the passenger, Amanda Moore, were staying. They found meth and fentanyl as well as an additional scale, Xanax and drug paraphernalia, according to a news release. "It was determined the driver was likely engaging in drugs sales," the news release stated. Scottgardon and Moore were released by citation at the scene in accordance with COVID-19 jail protocols. Scottgardon, 31, of Rancho Cordova, is charged with possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia. Moore, 41, of Reno, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics and appropriation of lost property.
