April 24 Family Day at Bulloch Hall includes gardening, tree and bird tours, games and a Rachel Carson performance.
On April 24 pack a picnic and come to Bulloch Hall in Roswell to enjoy outdoor activities that are fun and educational for children and adults. From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. children can help plant an organic vegetable garden that we will post updates on throughout the summer. In addition to planting the garden children will have the opportunity to examine and sort seeds and plant their seeds in a planter to take home. Roswell Historic Assets horticulturist, Helen Wenham, will be on hand to answer questions, demonstrate soil preparation and planting, and give pointers on planting your own garden. Leading up to this April 24 program we will post videos about gardening and the gardens at Bulloch Hall at southerntrilogy.org
In addition to the gardening activities, the City of Roswell’s arborist, Kayla Hicks, will give a tree tour at Bulloch Hall, which includes some trees that were planted in the mid-nineteenth century by the Bulloch family.
To complement the tree tours, a member of the Audubon Society will give bird tours of the property. A variety of birds and other wildlife live on the property and Bulloch Hall is certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Wildlife Habitat.
For the family day on April 24, actress Cathy Kaemmerlen will perform a 20-minute family-friendly program based on environmentalist Rachel Carson’s book The Sense of Wonder. Carson wrote and spoke extensively about environmental issues, including her well-known book, Silent Spring.
In case of rain, this event will be cancelled.
