'Drop It And Drive': Plainfield Police

PLAINFIELD, IL —April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month across the nation, and the Plainfield Police Department (PPD) is joining with transportation and law enforcement agencies to bring attention to the cause and remind motorists to "drop it (their phone) and drive." According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 26,004 people died in U.S. crashes involving a distracted driver between 2012 and 2019. In a release, the PPD has reminded residents that distracted driving is dangerous and illegal, and it puts the driver and others at risk. The department said that in April, there will be an increased effort by law enforcement to prevent distracted driving. Officers will stop and ticket anyone who violates distracted driving and other Illinois motor vehicle laws. In support of this effort, the PPD is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local law enforcement agencies.
