Mass. Man Arrested On Drug, Conduct Charges After Crash In Salem

SALEM, NH — A Massachusetts man is facing numerous charges, including three felonies, after being accused of fleeing from Salem police and crashing his car, and then, fleeing the accident on Monday. Around 9 p.m., a police sergeant stopped a 2019 Nissan Sentra on South Broadway for a license violation. The driver of the car, Wildy Antonio Arias Guerrero, 23, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, "initially stopped, provided an ID, and then fled from the stop," according to Capt. Jason Smith of the Salem Police Department. Guerrero, he said, drove south on South Broadway at speeds of more than 50 miles per hour. He was accused of turning off the headlights on the Sentra and running red lights, too. Later, Guerrero crashed the car into an embankment near Lowe's, Smith said. "(Guerrero) then abandoned the car, tossing a package containing more than 13 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl, before running into the woods near the state line," Smith said. An officer and his K-9 partner, "Lobo," successfully tracked down Guerrero hiding in a bush near the rail trail, he said. Guerrero was charged with possession of a controlled drug, falsifying physical evidence, and reckless conduct with a deadly weapon charges, all felonies, as well as driving without a license, disobeying an officer, and resisting arrest or detention charges. He was held on preventative detention and taken to the Rockingham County Jail. Guerrero was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in superior court.
