OAK LAWN, IL — Gunshots were fired shortly early Tuesday morning outside the Hilton Hotel in Oak Lawn, police said. Eight people are in custody. No charges have been announced as police continue with their investigation
Shortly after midnight, police received a 911 call of gunfire at the Hilton, 9333 S. Cicero Ave. Oak Lawn police officers arrived and stopped two vehicles from leaving the parking lot where a fight had apparently taken place. Eight people were taken into custody. Police said they also found two handguns and shell casings.
Div. Chief Gerald Vetter, of the Oak Lawn Police Department, said it appeared that an argument escalated into gunfire between the man who was shot at and a group of other people in the hotel parking lot.
"There have been no reported injuries related to this incident and a check of local hospitals has not turned up any walk-ins suffering from any suspicious gunshot wounds," Vetter said. "It is still early on in our investigation."
Five men and three women in their twenties are in custody. Detectives continue to interview the people involved and are collecting evidence from the vehicles believed to be involved.
"The incident does not appear to be gang related," Vetter said.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has addtional information to contact the Oak Lawn Police Department Investigations Division at 708-907-4051.
This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
