PALM DESERT, CA — A Riverside County sheriff's deputy was allegedly stabbed in the leg by a robbery suspect Tuesday afternoon in the El Paseo shopping district in Palm Desert, sheriff's officials said. Deputies were sent to the area of El Paseo and Lupine Lane about 1:15 p.m. looking for a robbery suspect, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro said deputies found the suspect and attempted to approach the person when a "physical altercation ensued." "During the altercation, the suspect was able to stab one of our deputies in the leg. The suspect was eventually taken into custody," the sergeant said. The deputy was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, will be booked in county jail on suspicion of committing multiple unspecified felonies, Pecoraro said.
