PITTSBURGH, PA — Steelers fans will get an extra game at Heinz Field this year as the NFL is expanding the regular season to 17 games. It's the first time in 43 years that the NFL has increased the number of games.
The Steelers will play the additional game against the Seattle Seahawks. No individual opponent dates have been announced.
"This is a monumental moment in NFL history," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.
"The collective bargaining agreement with the players and the recently completed media agreements provide the foundation for us to enhance the quality of the NFL experience for our fans. And one of the benefits of each team playing 17 regular-season games is the ability for us to continue to grow our game around the world."
According to NFL.com, each team will now take part in an additional AFC versus NFC game based on prior season division standings and on a rotating divisional basis. AFC teams will be the home teams this season.
Additionally, all 32 teams will play in at least one international game once every eight years.
In addition to the Seahawks, the Steelers will have home games against the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans.
On the road the team will visit division rivals Baltimore, Cincinnati and Cleveland, as as well as the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers and Minnesota Vikings.
