JOLIET, IL — Two 19-year-old Joliet residents were arrested and charged on Saturday after a shootout that led to a police chase, according to authorities. After hearing several gunshots near Second Avenue and Richards Street around 10:30 p.m., nearby officers sped to the area and saw a car driving away, police said in a news release. They tried to pull over the vehicle near Second and Mississippi Avenues, but the car fled. Police said officers chased the car until it stopped in a driveway in the 300 block of Union Street. Police found spent shell casings inside the vehicle, and its exterior showed what appeared to be bullet holes, according to the release. Adrian Bailey was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer. Authorities said another suspect, John Hernandez, had fired a gun at Bailey's car. He was arrested after being stopped in the 200 block of Duncan Street in possession of live ammunition. Hernandez was arrested on charges of unlawfully possessing ammunition, having no firearm owners identification and a Will County arrest warrant for failure to appear in court. Police said two firearms thought to be connected to the shootout were also found lying on the sidewalk near the 300 block of Mississippi Street.
