CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — Chicago Heights residents and businesses are now receiving a new benefit, according to a news release from the city. On March 12, residents and business owners received a notice by mailed — at their ComEd billing address — announcing the resumption of the Chicago Heights Electric Aggregation Program. The program follows the passage of a 2012 voter referendum the city is enabling to bring an electricity supply price equal to the ComEd published tariff rate for a 36-month term beginning with the May 2021 meter read cycles. The city said residents and business owners don't need to do anything to participate. Residents will pay the exact same rate billed by ComEd, and in turn, the city will be credited with 100 percent renewable/green energy, at no additional cost. The release states that ratepayers received different notices if they are already enrolled with another supplier. Some accounts remain at ComEd and others will enroll with Chicago-based Eligo Energy. You don't need to take any action and will automatically be included, unless you contracted with another supplier, the release states.
