ANDERSONVILLE— Residents in buildings on West Berwyn Avenue spanning from North Clark Street to North Glenwood Avenue are under a water boil advisory as of Tuesday, March 30, according to a notice from the Department of Water Management.
This means residents should bring any water they plan to use for teeth brushing, drinking, dish washing, making ice cubes and other consumption to a rolling boil for at least five minutes before use. Boiled water can then be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature.
According to spokeswoman Megan Vidis from the Department of Water Management, the agency has already collected samples from the area and anticipates the boil advisory will be cleared by Wednesday morning.
"Whenever there is a water main break due to routine work or maintenance in an area, we need to err on the side of caution," said Vidis. "I can't promise anything but rest assured this isn't unusual and is just a precaution at this point."
Test results take about 24 hours to confirm the safety of the water at the Andersonville locations. The Department of Water Management will update residents as soon as water is cleared for consumption.
