PHOENIX, AZ — More than 1,000 Arizona-based nonprofit organizations have signed up to take part in a one-day virtual fundraising event on April 6. The organizations will take part in Arizona Gives Day, which focuses on uniting state-based nonprofit organizations to increase philanthropy through online giving, according to an Arizona Giving Day release. Last year's event raised $6.1 million for Arizona nonprofits, with $23 million raised since 2013, which speaks to the success of the event, according to Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits CEO Kristen Merrifield. "Last year's Arizona Gives Day was a remarkable success in an incredibly uncertain environment. This year's event is even more critical for nonprofit organizations of every size in every community facing severe financial challenges in their ability to continue providing services and resources to their communities," Merrifield said in the release. "Our local nonprofit community is reporting significant losses over the past year. Our most-recent survey showed the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic with over 400 Arizona nonprofits reporting a total revenue loss of more than $91 million and an increase of over $15 million in expenses primarily for PPE, supplies and technology." The annual event, which is organized by Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits, Arizona Grantmakers Forum and FirstBank, has already generated more than $400,000 in donations for the more than 1,030 registered nonprofits taking part in the event, according to the release. Anyone that would like to contribute money on April 6 can do so during a specific block of time, which can help their chosen nonprofit win additional funds from event organizers. Donors can also create a fundraising page of their own to benefit their chosen nonprofit, with all donations received between now and April 6 going toward that organization's grand total.
