Press release from the City of Woburn: March 29, 2021 The City of Woburn is one of 125 communities across the Commonwealth selected to participate in the Department of Housing and Community Development's (DHCD) Massachusetts Downtown Initiative (MDI) Local Rapid Recovery Program (LRRP), which is designed to assist Woburn Center businesses plan for a future beyond the economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative will feature a partnership between economic development consultant Goman+York, the Office of Mayor Scott Galvin, the Woburn Redevelopment Authority, and the Chamber of Commerce. The end product of this initiative, expected in September of 2021, will be the creation of a plan that identifies and recommends short-term and intermediate term actions and investments to increase downtown foot traffic and improve outcomes in the public and private realms, including revenue and sales, administrative capacity, tenant mix and cultural/arts. The City is encouraging downtown business owners to support the program by filling out a brief survey intended to gather more specific information about the current downtown business environment and challenges. Robust participation from Woburn Center businesses is critical to providing the feedback that will be essential to a successful action plan.
