GA House Passes Year-Round Daylight Saving Time

ATLANTA — No more springing forward or falling back for Georgians, if State House votes are any indication. The Georgia House of Representatives resoundingly passed a bill that aims to institute Standard Time across the state and abolish Daylight Saving Time. By a 111 to 48 vote, state representatives approved Senate Bill 100 that will move Georgia closer to ending the twice-annual shift of the clock either forward or backward. The initial Senate vote passed 46-7. The legislation was sponsored by Savannah Sen. Ben Watson, who suggested that, among other things, moving the clock forward and back by an hour each Spring and Fall was not healthy. In a non-scientific survey conducted by Patch earlier this month, more than 2,600 readers were mostly split over whether or not to continue the practice with the advantage going to "Not." It looks like the majority of those survey participants will get their way. The vote now goes back to the State Senate for a final vote, then to Gov. Brian Kemp's desk for signing.
