Taking applications now Plucky Puppy is now hiring for several positions. We are looking for experienced dog trainers, training assistants, and dog training interns to teach, assist, or observe group dog training classes in N, NE, and SE Portland on weekday evenings and weekends. We are also looking for a well-qualified admin assistant for 10-20 hours of work (from home) per week. Job Description: Lead Trainer: The lead trainer will teach puppy and adult dog training classes and/or puppy socials with the help of a training assistant. Duties include teaching dog training classes to between four and seven dogs and their owners; setting up and breaking down classroom space; managing registrations, vaccination requirements, homework, graduation certificates and prizes; communicating with students about schedule changes and make up classes; answering general dog training questions; etc. Additional opportunities may include private training and behavior consultations, day training, and boarding and training, depending on experience. Training Assistant: The training assistant will assist during dog training classes and/or private dog training consultations. Duties may include setting up training facility, checking in students, providing one-on-one training assistance to individual students, handling demo dogs, demonstrating training techniques, registering students for class, handling paperwork, taking notes, tidying up training facilities, etc. Pay and Benefits: Based on experience and qualifications * starting pay for lead trainer is $20/hour * starting pay for training assistant and admin is $15/hour * internship is unpaid Plucky Puppy is licensed, bonded, and insured Class materials are provided Opportunity for growth within company Required qualifications: Lead trainer: At least two years experience training dogs using positive reinforcement training At least one year experience teaching dog training classes Training assistant: At least one year experience training dogs using positive reinforcement training Intern: interest in dog training Must be available some weekday evenings between 6:30pm and 8:30pm Must be available on at least one weekend day Must be willing to travel to class locations (N, NE, SE Portland) Must have cell phone and email access; ability to respond promptly to phone calls or emails Must love dogs and people Impeccable work ethic -- reliable, punctual, organized Ability to follow detailed directions and employ good judgment Respect for the needs of clients (both dogs and people), and willingness to carry out job-specific requests Willingness to use only positive reinforcement training methods Must be able to make 1 year commitment Must be physically able to perform job duties Must be able to communicate effectively with clients and other Plucky Puppy staff Must be able to pass background check and provide professional references Desired qualifications: CPDT certification, Graduate of DogTec, SF SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers, NW School of Canine Studies, Animal Behavior College, Karen Pryor Academy, or similar training program Interest and ability to board and train dogs in your home Interest and ability to provide day training Interest and ability to provide private training How to apply: Please answer the following questions in an email to Katrin Greim at [email protected] with the words "Dog Trainer Application," "Training Assistant Application," or "Dog Training Intern Application" in the subject line.
