Description
My parents recently retired, sold their house of 30 years, and packed up their entire life to move closer to their children and grandchildren. They did this all alone, because of COVID restrictions. They put their jewelry in a backpack, so it would never leave their sight. Somewhere between Orange County airport, Seattle airport, and Bellevue, their jewelry was gone.
Some jewelry was passed down to them, like an uncle’s pocket watch. Some was given to them. Like my father’s St. Christopher necklace, the patron saint of travelers. His mom and dad gave him the necklace when he enlisted in the Marine Corps, more than 50 years ago. There was my mom’s 1969 Bellarmine Jefferson High School class ring.
Much of it was jewelry that marked their life together. Anniversary and Christmas presents. The gold cross with a diamond that they gave to each woman in the family one Christmas.
I am sure there is some real value in all of this gold and gemstones. But these heirlooms are invaluable to my mom and dad. This jewelry is how they honor their loved ones and their lives together. It is one way they remember, and one way they want to be remembered. There is life lived in this jewelry. There are stories in this jewelry. And they would like them back.
If you have found a mesh travel bag with a green velvet bag inside that was carrying a lot of jewelry, please reach out.
Cash reward, no questions asked. And the eternal gratitude of a good family. And my mom will probably bake you a big batch of cookies, and write you a Christmas card every year.
