I know what you mean by dumbing down requirements. A high school buddy joined the fire dept. The physical requirement at the time was to climb 4 stories in gear, carry a "buddy" down those same steps and do it in a certain time. When the push came to get women in the dept they had to dumb down the test. It ended up only being to climb a flight of stairs in half gear and down in a certain time, no "buddy" involved. How does this relate to real life. Half the women who graduated quit the job because it was too hard. Those left hesitated or refused to enter a building. They threatened to sue, so they were given desk jobs, driving only or PR positions made up to satisfy them and their lawyers. I could give equal time to other positions but I am sure you all will counter with some urban legends or the storied ramblings of your own super woman.
