Description
Competition is good, except for the postal service. There's just too many competitors. The days of sending letters as correspondence or paying bills by mail ended with the internet, as did the pony express with the telegraph.
I used to get mail that I asked for or needed. Now the trip to my outside mailbox usually involves a trip to the garbage can to complete the circut of delivering recyclable materials.
I actually liked the mail service as I grew up with it. The whole process was a work of trust....send something somewhere and it got there, or expect something to arrive that did....all at a minimal cost.
I don't see how the old work horse can survive against the newer, streamlined services available. Rather then be a package delivery service, perhaps the U.S. Postal System should just focus on mail. To keep raising the price on stamps makes me rather pay my bills on line, as I'm already paying for that service, so why add another 50+cents for a stamp, plus the cost of a check? As an old fashioned person I preferred to pay bills by mail for years....but modern times have got me in there grasp now.....and the bills get paid by wire.
