Back, oh, some time ago, tunes had a beginning, a middle and an end, and something mighty interesting could happen in between. Now we have 10 minute vamps that lead nowhere, with screwed up faces trying to chanel sittin’ on the old porch animalistic soul wails in eternal ineptitude. There was that brief period between about 1965 and 1969 that went beyond any expectations, but then it was gone. Yet that’s not the period I’m thinking about. I’m thinking about a time when they didn’t just write songs, they wrote miracles. Can you guess?
