YLIA set out to Be The Change in 20-21, and they accomplished that mission. Support this event and invest in these young leaders! Attend this formal gallery walk and showcase event and social distance and mask up as you stroll through and visit our 13 teams, see how they partnered with over 50 organizations and impacted their communities, donate to their 21-22 year of impact, and pick up a special homemade treat from our Chicago Sweet treat table. These leaders were the change in 20-21, and they need your support! This event is sponsored by The Community Foundation of Macon County and Decatur Rotary #180. YLIA 20-21 IMPACT EVENTS! June 18, 2020 -- Aldi Gift Card Giveaway -- Young Leaders in Action surprised ALDI shoppers on June 18 with $50 gift cards as part of community impact day. The gift cards and assistance were provided during the store's special at-risk and senior shopping hour. June 20, 2020 -- Food Box Drive-Up Day -- 500 families received necessary food products. June 23, 2020 -- Aldi Gift Card Giveaway -- Young Leaders in Action surprised ALDI shoppers on June 23 with $50 gift cards as part of community impact day. The gift cards and assistance were provided during the store's special at-risk and senior shopping hour. July 24, 2020-- YLIA Fight Against Hunger Empowerment Lunch Day -- Young Leaders in Action fed those in need in Macon County, helping to alleviate the effects of Decatur's 22% poverty rate. July 29, 2020 -- Allie's Reading Buddies and Book Drive -- YLIA Outreach Chair Allie Schelling held an impact day and 25 of our leaders empowered 65 youth at the Boys & Girls Club of Decatur Summer Camp. Over 2,300 books were collected for DPS Hope Academy. August 1, 2020 -- Backpack Attack at the Decatur Family YMCA --YLIA members distributed 1,200 backpacks filled with school supplies to grade school children. August 8, 2020 -- Food Box Drive-Up Day -- Food boxes distributed to 400 families. August 28, 2020 -- YLIA Cares for Seniors -- 285 cards handmade for residents of five area nursing homes. September 12, 2020 -- Volunteer at Good Samaritan Inn -- Food prep and serving lunches October 2, 2020 -- Volunteer at WSOY Community Food Drive -- Over $600,000 raised to support 18 area food pantries - that's equal to 3.2 million pounds of food! October 17, 2020 -- Food Box Drive-up Day -- Food boxes distributed to 400 families. November 2, 2020 -- Celebrate World Interact Day -- International Zoom party. November 21, 2020 -- Prepare, Cook, and Deliver 200 Thanksgiving meals in partnership with First Baptist Church. December 3, 2020 -- Awarded $1,000 Grant from Blake Cowden Leadership Foundation. December 4, 2020 -- Coordinate Christmas Gifts for 300 Children in Macon County CASA program. December 5, 2020 -- Ring bells for The Salvation Army of Decatur -- 10-hours at two locations. January 21, 2021 -- Decatur Public Library Children's Zoom Reading Event January 23, 2021 -- Volunteer at Good Samaritan January 28, 2021 -- Decatur Public Library Children's Zoom Reading Event February 6, 2021 -- Rise Up & Unify Youth Leadership Conference February 20, 2021 -- Olive Garden Meals on Wheels Event in Niantic February 23, 2021 -- Distribute Dani Rubin Kater COVID-19 Carekits at the Boys & Girls Club of Decatur March 6, 2021 -- Thank you for your service event at 121 Coffee Run in Warrensburg March 12 & 26, 2021-- Hillside Bethel Tabernacle Church Food Box Drive March 14, 2021-- Volunteer at Good Samaritan Inn -- Food prep and serving hot lunches March 16, 2021-- Stuffing Easter Egg Project for the Junior Welfare Association at the Children's Museum March 27, 2021-- Easter Egg Hunt with St. Paul Lutheran Church in Decatur April 2, 2021-- Community Day of Peace for the Decatur Police Department (Violence Prevention Program) April 3, 2021-- Sweet Treats, Violence Prevention, and distribute Dani Rubin Kater COVID-19 Care Kits to 9 homes and 33 residents throughout Mt. Zion and Decatur for the Marion County Horizon Center. April 17, 2021-- Food Truck Frenzy for United Way May 8, 2021--Dipper Diaper Drive for Decatur Correctional Center, Dove, Inc., and New Life Pregnancy Center May 29, 2021--Appreciating a Senior Day (County-wide Love) 21-22 Violence Prevention Program: Mission: As a member of the Young Leaders In Action Violence Prevention Students Against Violence Everywhere Promise Club, we strive to: Educate- We will educate our members and school community to recognize and actively prevent violence, victimization, or self-harm before it happens. Empower- We will empower members of our SAVE Promise Club and school community to be the change that their community needs. Encourage- We will encourage each other to promote positive peer influences, inclusivity across diverse groups, and support young leadership within the school and community. Engage-We will do our best to engage a wide and diverse audience to restore a positive relationship between law enforcement officers and youth. Impact 21-22 Violence Prevent Calendar March 21: Say Something Week March 1st - March 5th & National Violence Prevention Week March 29th - April 3rd April 21: Empower Upstanders-Community Day of Peace April 2nd -National SAVE Youth Summit April 17th May 21: Mindfulness for Mental Health August 21: YLIA will host a back-to-school kick-off event to promote a message of county-wide safety and inclusion. September 21: YLIA will start with a hello and reduce social isolation and promote inclusion. If you see someone alone, reach out and help (invite someone to sit at lunch with you). October 21: YLIA will embrace diversity to create a safe and inclusive culture at school and accept everyone for who they are. Embrace diversity and reduce isolation! We want you to feel safe, supported, included, and respected. November 21: YLIA will reach out and help. Being kind makes a huge impact. You can start by saying hello to a stranger, donate to a food drive, or help with a project. Help someone in your life! December 21: YLIA will promote kindness and compassion. Reach out to a friend, do a random act of kindness, or help someone in need. January 22: YLIA will encourage changemakers. Your voice matters to make an impact on the world. We want you to BE THE CHANGE that your community needs!
