WALTHAM, MA — There's a new robot in town. Boston Dynamics, the Waltham-based company that is known for its creepy robot dog called Spot, released a video of its latest robot prototype of its new robot "Stretch." This robot is designed to automate repetitive box-moving in warehouses and distribution centers. Stretch can unload trucks and build pallets of boxes, according to the company. "Stretch makes warehouse operations more efficient and safer for workers," the company said in a statement. The company released a video of it moving around a warehouse, and using what appeared to be suction cup hand to pick up boxes and move them to conveyor belts. It's unclear how many people are needed to operate the machine, or what it will mean for jobs.
