PLYMOUTH, MA – Unfortunately COVID-19 infections seem to be back being a "red," or high-risk, community in Plymouth again. As it was starting to be a "yellow," or moderate-risk town for about a week. It is time to not remain so comfortable but remember that there is still a global pandemic that must continue to be prevented.
Plymouth was shifted to a brighter hue about two weeks ago when a lowered rate in the single digits occurred. Except, outbreaks congregating living facilities, daycare centers and people in their 20s pushed the town back into the red, where it was since last fall.
Public Health Director Karen Keane stated, "We have to stay in the yellow for two weeks. We didn't make it through the trial period." The numbers began to climb again on March 15, with 32 illnesses. Then kept increasing day by day with 35 new illnesses on March 18, with 12 people contracting COVID-19 at High Point Treatment Center.
Keane is advising people to take the proper precautions. As of March 18, Plymouth reported 4,114 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 224 people being monitored for the illness, and 150 residents have died from the disease. Keane emphasizes wearing masks, washing hands, being socially distant and getting vaccinated. With numbers climbing it is not the time to be too lax.
