NEWTON, MA — Joel Jocelyn, principal of the Franklin Elementary School, is a finalist for Waltham's next assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. The Waltham School District announced it has gotten to three finalists to replace Assistant Superintendent Liz Homan, who has held the position since 2018. Jocelyn has been in his position in Newton for the past five years. He previously worked in the Fall River and Boston school districts. Assistant Superintendent Sarah Kent in Chelsea, and Jose Salgado, a chief academic officer for a school district in Jackson Mississippi are the other finalists. The Waltham Superintendent of Schools is set to present his choice to the School Committee April 7 for a vote. Jocelyn is scheduled to participate in virtual site visits to Waltham March 31 and April 1.
