Man Shoots At Everglades Park Rangers After Domestic Incident

HOMESTEAD, FL — A 33-year-old man shot at law enforcement rangers in Everglades National Park Sunday evening, according to a news release from National Park Services. Around 6:45 p.m., the suspect shot at rangers along the main park road on State Road 9336, about 20 miles from the Homestead entrance. The suspect surrendered and was taken into custody just before 9 p.m., NPS said. There were no injuries. Earlier in the day, two park rangers responded to a domestic violence investigation at Mahogany Hammock Trail, involving the same suspect. When the rangers arrived, the suspect had driven away in his vehicle and was believed to be heading to Flamingo campgrounds, NPS said. At 5:52 p.m., rangers located the empty vehicle on the main park road just south of Paurotis Pond. Evidence suggested the suspect fled into the woods and was armed, the NPS said.
